arriving in geneva
So having arrived at Heathrow about 30 minutes late we navigated the maze that is the various terminals at the worlds busiest airport. I was so nervous about my luggage not making it but what can you do. We transferred from Terminal 4 to Terminal 5 on a bus that seemed to take hours and then had to join an enormous queue to clear security again.
Once through we headed to the British Airways lounge where they struggled to work out if Qantas Club members are allowed to bring a guest. Ultimately they let us in and we grabbed some drinks to try and get ourselves sorted before our next leg of the trip.
Soon enough they were calling the flight to Geneva - a A319 service. I was kinda peeved that they asked those without wheelie carry on luggage to put out bags under the seat in front to make room for the wheelies in the overheads. Why should those of us who check our baggage be further penalised by less legroom?

The flight touched down in Geneva uneventfully and after a small luggage mishap which saw my colleague depart the airport with the wrong suitcase we found a SBB ticket office and picked up our tickets for the trip from Milan to Geneva next week and then headed into town.
After getting our bearings we eventfully found our way to Hotel Auteuil and checked in. Because the next available flight to Florence to Geneva was not until the next day this gave us a chance to wander the streets and check out the town.
We headed down to Lake Geneva to check out Jet d'Eau and the horloge fleurie (Flower Clock) and then headed up Passage Malbuisson and along to Musee Barbier Mueller, Cathedrale de St-Pierre and Promenade de la Treille. I also checked out Cathedrale de Notre Dame. After the walk we grabbed a beer (or six) and some dinner at Restaurant Rive Droite and headed off for a well earned rest - having pretty much been awake for 48 hours or so. Lots to try to squeeze in tomorrow before our flight.
