singaporean reststop

I slept in a little this morning before heading down to grab some breakfast in Club Intercontinental. Today is all about getting a little bit of relaxation before getting myself a little better organised in the afternoon. I even managed to do a little bit of freelance - but I am finding it very difficult to do any real work. It just feels a little too much like holidays hanging around a hotel all morning.

In the afternoon I headed off via the MRT to Citylink and Marina Square. After a quick stop to give some advice regarding a shoe purchase as Lacoste I headed over to Cathay Photo to buy myself a new tripod after last nights efforts at the zoo. The guy tried to sell me a cheap noname brand but was extra surprised when I opted for him to show me some Manfrotto options. The first he showed me was SGD$533 for a carbon fibre (without a head) - but after checking out the weight of the aluminium 190XB I decided to go with it. That way I was able to get the tripod, a great new ball head 484RC2 and a MBAG70 carry bag for just a bit over AUD$320. Bargain. But the extra 2kg won't do much for my excess baggage charges on Flybaboo early next week.

On the way back to the Intercontinental I stopped off at the very gay New Urban Male at Bugis Junction to buy myself a new pair of Havaianas thongs. They had a reasonable range but not so many options at my size - so I settled on some red ones. From there I went to Epicentre to look for some form of skin for the iPhone 3GS which I am planning on upgrading to when I get back to Sydney. They didn't have anything that caught my fancy though. After some ice cream from Gelateria Venezia it was time for a quick nap before heading out for dinner.

Dinner was a pre-birthday treat and we headed to Satsuma in Nanson Rd for a spot of very nice yellowtail sashimi and some karaage chicken. Nice food, good company it was quite a nice wind down for the trip. Even tried the specialty shōchū - a sweet potato distilled spirit (not my kind of thigh though).

From there we headed back to the Intercontinental and changed and headed out for a final walk around town so I could use my new tripod and get some photos of some of the older buildings all lit up. We headed down based the Singapore Art Museum, though the Singapore Management University campus and up to the National Museum. Then down Armenian St past the Masonic Centre and the Armenian Church before heading to St Andrew's Cathedral and along the Padang and City Hall and the Supreme Court. By this stage is was close to midnight and lights were starting to shut off, but I got a few photos at the Asian Civilisations Museum and at Cavenagh Bridge and The Fullerton. Less successful with my shots of Merlion Park and Esplanade (where the lights were off by the time I got there).

By this stage Citylink was closed and we decided to cab it back to the hotel. Was a good but long day. I should sleep well tonight.
