round the island

After grabbing some breakfast at in the Club Lounge at the Intercontinental this morning I headed off to do a bit of sight seeing in the neighbourhood before it became too hot to bear on the streets. One of this things I dislike about Singapore is the fact that because the locals dart from air conditioned building to air conditioned building and are more acclimatised to the humidity - I feel like I am the only person in the entire bloody country who is sweating their arse off. Very icky.

So I wondered up past Bugis and past the Sri Krishnan Temple and the Goddess of Mercy Temple before heading to the Arab Quarter to check out the Sultan Mosque. From there I wandered over to Little India and took the MRT down to Chinatown to do a bit more of a walk. I checked out the Chinatown Heritage Centre, the huge Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, Scarlet Hotel and the Siang Cho Keong Temple. From there I passed by the Al-Abrar Mosque, Thian Hock Keng Temple and the Fuk Tak Chi Museum.

We walked over to Raffles Place to grab the train back to Bugis Junction where we decided on lunch at Shokudo - where I had a nice mushroom burger. We then took a break before hitting the MRT to Ang Mo Kio and taking one of the SBS buses out to the Singapore Zoo for the Night Safari. The lesson of the day is that taking photos at the Night Safari is next to impossible. Even if you take a tripod (and I only took a monopod), you then have to rely on the animals sitting perfectly still which just never happens. So after walking half way around the zoo we abandoned my plans of photography and headed caught the tram back with commentary and a breeze to cool down a bit. We also abandoned the plan to catch public transport back to the Intercontinental - and took a taxi back.

Everything was closed by the time that we got to the hotel - and we ended up opting for a very late night room service and a chat. Been a very long day.
